Joe has been a member of Speak for Success, York-Simcoe Toastmasters club 3498 for a whole year. During his time with the club he has represented our club in two speech contests at area level. He has completed his Competent Communicator Award and has achieved his career goal as planned, 1 year ago.

Recently, Joe was awarded the position of Product Consultant at the LCBO. A year ago Joe decided that he would apply for this position. He felt he needed to prepare his skill set for the application. That is why he joined Toastmasters. When the day arrived for his interview, which involved a presentation, he was ready. His presentation was impeccable and the management decision makers were very impressed. Joe feels he owes it all to the experience he has gained at Toastmasters over the past year.

Knowing that the skills he has acquired to date through his Toastmaster experience have been helpful, he feels more instrumental in his goals to date, Joe shared with me, “I am a lifer in this program”. Joe works at the Bolton LCBO. He is very knowledgeable on product and will help you choose the right spirit for your entertaining purposes. Joe grew up in Schomberg, is married and now is a resident of Bradford. He is passionate about gardening and travel, which is displayed, through his prepared speeches to our club. This year Joe is going to lead our club, as president. This experience will surely help Joe in his personal development and growth.

A New TM Year, make it the Key to your Success

I am so excited about this year at Speak for Success, Toastmasters. I have asked for assistance from some of our other fine members Cassandra Russel, Bonnie Walker, Cynthia Witzig and Nick Bicanic. We are forming a committee for Public Relations/Promotions/Events. The idea is with a few more hands we will be able to develop and follow-through on information necessary to promote our club. This year we are looking at trying to create community knowledge of our group. I see this happening through club open houses, town events, promotional materials and promoting our club to networking venues ie lunch and learns. This year leadership programs such as Youth Leadership and Speechcraft are being encouraged. I would also like to have educational guest speakers in 4 times a year for our open houses.

Our members are going to be featured in our monthly Members article, which will be published in our blog. I hope all of you will accommodate our writers in gathering information. The idea behind this is to allow our guests and new members to know more about individuals in our membership. Not only do we want to know more about you we want to know how the Toastmasters’ experience has helped you in your life.

If you have any ideas that we might incorporate into our plan, please feel free to share these with us.

This year’s theme is Key to Success. I hope you are working on your goals for this year.

These goals could be looked at as your key. Unlock your potential. Try something new; you may be pleasantly surprised on what you find out about yourself and others.

Have fun and remember we are all here to learn and give support. If you have questions don’t hesitate to ask one of your club members. Someone will be bound to know the answer.
